A miniature room starts to feel like a real home when the little details work together. Printable wallpaper is a lovely way to add character, but an unexpected printer setting can turn a delicate pattern into something much larger than you intended.
Here’s how to print wallpaper designed for 1:12 scale, check the size, and get ready to decorate your tiny space.
Quick printing checklist
US Letter paper: 8.5 × 11 inches
Print at Actual Size or 100%
Switch off Fit to Page
Make a test print before decorating
1. Check the scale and file size first
In 1:12 scale, one inch in your dollhouse represents one foot in a full-size room. Choose a wallpaper file designed for that scale, then check the product’s printing instructions.
All Little Cat Workshop printable files are designed as US Letter sheets, measuring 8.5 × 11 inches. This includes our Sage & Cream Striped Wallpaper and White Shiplap Wallpaper. Select US Letter paper in your print settings and keep the sheet at its intended size to preserve the miniature scale.
2. Choose paper for your project
Matte photo paper or good-quality inkjet paper is a useful starting point for dollhouse wallpaper. Matte paper avoids a glossy finish, while thinner paper can be easier to fit around corners and openings. Use paper compatible with your printer and check its supported paper weights.
Before committing to a whole room, try a small sample with your chosen adhesive. Check that the ink stays crisp and the paper lies flat.
3. Print at 100% or Actual Size
Open the downloaded file in a program that lets you control its printed dimensions. Look for a setting called Actual Size or 100%. Avoid Fit to Page or Scale to Fit, which can change the size of the pattern.
For PNG files, 100% does not mean the same thing in every image-printing program. Check the intended width and height in the print preview. If the program does not use the file’s intended dimensions, set them manually according to the product instructions.
Check the paper size and orientation too. Borderless printing can sometimes enlarge an image slightly, so check for an expansion setting or use a test print before relying on it.
4. Make a test print
Start with a draft print on ordinary paper. Measure the printed sheet or a known reference dimension and compare it with the file’s intended size. A printer’s non-printable margins may crop an edge at Actual Size; shrinking the sheet to fit would also shrink the pattern.
Hold the sample beside your miniature furniture to see how the pattern feels in the room. Once the dimensions are right, print on your chosen paper using an appropriate quality setting.

5. Plan before cutting and gluing
Measure each wall and mark doors and windows on a paper template. Test the template in your room before cutting your wallpaper. Leave a little extra where you need to trim or wrap an edge.
If the design is seamless, you can repeat sheets for longer walls. Print them with the same settings and align the pattern carefully before attaching them. Use a small amount of an adhesive suitable for your paper and wall surface, following its instructions.
Common printing problems
The pattern looks too big or too small
Check whether Fit to Page, automatic photo enlargement, or borderless expansion is switched on. Then confirm the printed dimensions match the dimensions specified for the file.
The colours look different from the screen
Screens, printers, inks, and papers reproduce colour differently. Make a sample on your final paper before printing several sheets, and keep the same settings throughout the project.
The wallpaper wrinkles when glued
Test your adhesive on a spare piece first. Too much moisture can wrinkle paper. Apply it sparingly and let your sample dry before deciding whether the materials work together.
Choose a backdrop for your miniature room
For a soft cottage look, try Yellow Floral Stripe Wallpaper or Sage & Cream Striped Wallpaper. For a simple farmhouse backdrop, explore White Shiplap Wallpaper.
