How to Make Printable Dollhouse Wall Art

A little artwork can make a miniature room feel lived in. A woodland scene above a tiny desk, a vintage painting beside a bookcase, or a few pictures along a staircase can give your space a story without taking up much room.

Printable artwork is an easy way to experiment. You can try different arrangements, swap pictures between rooms, and create frames that suit your dollhouse.

What you’ll need

  • Printable miniature artwork
  • A printer and suitable paper
  • Scissors or a craft knife, cutting mat, and ruler
  • Thin card for backing
  • Craft glue
  • Optional framing materials, such as narrow wooden strips or layered cardstock

If you’re using a craft knife, work on a cutting mat and take your time with those tiny edges.

1. Choose artwork for your room

Think about the feeling you want to create. Rustic landscapes can make a cabin feel cozy, while vintage-style paintings suit a cottage, study, or miniature reading nook.

For a gallery wall, choose a few pictures with a shared colour or theme. They don’t have to match perfectly. A mix of sizes and shapes can make the arrangement feel collected over time.

2. Print a test before using your best paper

Check the instructions included with your download first. Little Cat Workshop’s printable sheets use US Letter paper, 8.5 × 11 inches.

When artwork is supplied at its intended miniature size, select Actual size or 100% in your print settings. Avoid Fit to page, which may change the dimensions.

Print a test on ordinary paper, then hold the artwork against your miniature wall. Check its size beside nearby furniture before printing your final copy.

3. Pick your paper

Smooth matte paper is a good starting point because it keeps reflections down and lets the artwork show clearly. A slightly heavier paper can also be easier to handle than thin copy paper.

Use paper your printer supports. If you want a sturdier finished picture, you can mount the print on thin card instead of printing on very thick stock.

Let the ink dry fully before trimming or gluing.

4. Trim and add a backing

Cut carefully around your chosen picture. Scissors work well for small pieces, while a ruler and craft knife can help with straight edges.

For backing, cut a piece of thin card just smaller than the artwork. Apply a thin, even layer of glue and attach the print. Too much glue can cause ripples, so start sparingly.

Leave it flat to dry before adding a frame.

5. Make a simple miniature frame

A frame doesn’t need to be complicated. Try a cardstock border for a clean finish, or narrow wooden strips for a more substantial look.

For a cardstock frame, cut a rectangle slightly larger than your artwork, then cut an opening in the centre that overlaps the picture’s edges. Test the fit before gluing.

If you’re painting a wooden frame, paint it separately and let it dry before attaching your artwork.

6. Plan your arrangement before attaching it

Lay your pictures on a piece of paper and try a few arrangements. For a gallery wall, start with the largest picture and place smaller pieces around it.

Hold the arrangement against the room before fixing anything in place. Check how it looks beside furniture, doors, and windows, and test your chosen adhesive on a hidden area of the wall finish first.

One well-placed picture can be enough. Start with a small corner, try a few options, and let the room guide you.
